3 YouTube Videos That Will Fix Your Life

If you grew up with a less-than-doting mother, you might have had to learn a few things from the internet. I know I did.

Here are 3 YouTube videos I watched in my teens and early 20’s that made a huge impact on my life.

1. How to Speak with Confidence by Nurberxo

This video isn’t about public speaking, though it certainly applies. It’s about speaking with confidence in every day conversations.

If you struggle to speak the way you want to in interviews or in social situations, this video might be helpful. When I found this video, I was rehearsing (and replaying) conversations in my head all the time — trying to plan out what I meant to say so that I’d be able to get it right when it mattered most.

This video helped me learn to present myself with an easy-going confidence that allowed me to slow down my racing thoughts or allow myself a moment to think if my mind went blank during an important conversation.

Listening to the way she speaks about herself also taught me a new way of being with and in myself — and it also let me know I wasn’t the only one who struggled with this. All of this together allowed me to be a better friend and learn to hold similar space for others, even as I was still getting the hang of speaking with confidence myself.

There’s a lot of pressure to be perfect but, honestly, I think it’s even more important to be genuine. If you make a mistake, you can always correct it. If you say the wrong thing, you can always clarify later.

2. Organize Your Life with Kalyn Nicholson

I’ve followed Kalyn around online since 2014. She’s like the big sister I never had. There are probably hundreds of GYST videos (“Get Your Shit Together”) on her channel where she shares her routine for preparing for a week ahead. She has kiddos in her life now, but even without littles of my own, I’m still finding her content really helpful.

She talks frequently about mental health struggles, demonstrates healthy boundaries and relationships, inspires healthier habits, and helps me notice and challenge negative self-talk in myself.

This particular video will walk you through some of the ways she keeps her life more organized. She offers suggestions for people who are less organization-obsessed to help you customize systems and routines for yourself.

3. Habits of Highly Successful People with Lavendaire

Lavendaire creates an annual life audit and planning book called “The Artist of Life Workbook” and I have bought one every year since 2017. Her business has really taken off in the past three years or so, and it’s amazing to see. This video from 2017 was one of the influences that first inspired me to start changing my life and breaking out of some of the toxic and painful cycles that had been ruling my life up until that point.

While I would never try to start 23 habits at once, you might find a starting point that sparks inspiration by watching this video. If you’re looking for more inspiration, her channel has grown beautifully over the years and there are so many videos to choose from.

You’re never as lost, as alone, or as much of a mess as it feels like you are.

These videos found me at a time I really needed them. I hope they can help you too, but if they’re not quite hitting the spot, go give that YouTube search bar a chance.

Think about the areas you feel the smallest, the most insecure, the most frozen, or the most uncomfortable, and then go find someone you feel inspired by and study how they handle that aspect of their lives.

Then think about what it might look like if you adopted a bit of their sparkle and made it your own. For example, when I struggled to speak clearly and slow my speech, I listened to NurberXO on YouTube present confident speaking in a way I could relate to.

When I struggled to feel calm, safe, and worthy in my daily life, I noticed Kalyn Nicholson struggling with her self-worth at times and still living an incredibly full life. I studied the way she thought about herself and her habits, and I took her advice to journal and play with routines to find what made me feel best.

Nothing got better overnight, but thanks to years of little baby steps and continuing to surround myself with inspiring and brilliant creative women, I ended up becoming a woman I could be really proud of. I found a sense of security, stability, and worthiness in myself. I let go of toxic relationships along the way, but we don’t have to talk about that just yet. For now, focus on what you do want to be better at, stop wishing your parents or school had taught you (because yeah, they probably should have, but they didn’t and we can’t go back… it’s time to work with what we have!), and go learn!

Make it fun. You got this!
